In my blog today, I wanted to share some details about my new book release and how I felt called to write it to help others cope during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is called “Rest in God; A Prayer Journal” and will be released on September 15, 2020.
The Purpose
In these troubled times, everyone experiences problems, but some feel more overwhelmed, while others seem to bounce back from setbacks and challenges. In the turmoil of life, we often need assurances from a power beyond the physical world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I needed comfort. So, I devoted myself to prayer to find the strength to face the uncertainty during the lockdown. I felt overwhelmed and stressed and looked for prayers to help me. Also, I started to realize that others probably felt the same way. So, I decided to post prayers online (Twitter) each day for myself and others in hopes of helping us remember that God remains in control.
New Book Release
Prayer is our direct link to our Heavenly Father. The link stands open 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Also, Jesus set the example of praying in His time on earth, so we should follow that example. Our prayers need not be wordy or eloquent. But, if you are not sure what to say, start with the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus gives us this prayer as a tool to help us get started. I want to show others how to pray in my new book, Rest in God, published by Arabelle Publishing. This 222-page pocket-sized book is easy to carry in a purse or briefcase.
Why a Prayer Journal?
The book includes 100 prayers to answer all the daily needs of men and women seeking comfort from God. And, the book also includes 100 meditation scriptures. Besides 100 prayers and scriptures, Rest in God is a journal book where one can note personal prayers and prayer answers. I believe that a prayer journal is an excellent tool to help us see God’s hand in action. When I pray and read scripture, I usually find that a situation or need comes to mind. I write those thoughts down in my prayer journal.
When God answered those requests, I go back and update my journal. Going back and reading the journal years later gives me a clear picture of Christ moving through my life, and it reminds me that God never leaves or forsakes me. For many people, questions may not always have answers, which leads to unrest. A book like, Rest in God, can be a way to help people use prayer and meditation to restore inner peace to those questioning their faith. I believe that God always answers our prayers but not the way we want.
How Prayer Helped Me
Facing the loss of her child, I learned valuable lessons about prayer and the love of God. When my son died, I begged and pleaded with God for nine days, not to let him die, and I did not get the answer I wanted. But, looking back, I see God’s plan more clearly now and understand that my broken heart would allow me to help orphans. Twenty years ago, I founded Orphan Relief Effort, which cares for orphans in Nepal and Myanmar. You can read about my journey on the mission field in my memoir, Turning Mountains into Molehills, available on Amazon. My journey and mission are to be the hands and feet of Christ to others in their struggles. I hope to help my readers build a relationship with God and witness the miracle of answered prayer.

God of Peace, thank you for holding us firmly when we are broken-hearted. Thank you for standing by our side and allowing us to feel your physical presence when we grieve. Please help us remember in prayer, those who are crushed in spirit and need help to face the future. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
