How do you see yourself? Sometimes, as I look back over my life, all my sins and failures jump out at me. They cast shadows of doubts over me and leaving me wondering if I hold any worth to God. Then, I realize, this is Satan working to discourage me and to keep me sidelined in my faith walk. God sees our worth in ways we don’t always understand.
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Determining Our Worth
I saw a post that helped me to see my worth through the eyes of God. The post asked us to examine a $20 bill. As we consider the journey of this bill, we might see it used to buy drugs or other unlawful things. Active 2: Maybe a thief took it from someone who needed it to make ends meet. Did someone use it to gamble and leave the family in a worse off circumstance? Then, on the positive side, maybe someone gave it as a gift. Active 1: Regardless of how someone used the bill in the past, it still has a value of $20. And God sees our worth regardless of our past sins. By his mercy, he saves us and keeps our worth intact.
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

No Exceptions
As we continue to look at a $20 bill, maybe we notice a tear, or some dirt, or it just looks old. Yet, no matter the condition, it contains the same value as it did when it was first printed. That message holds true for us. We are never too old, too dirty, or too used up to be of value to God. We still hold the same worth as we did in our younger days.
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; 13 planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green.

Trusting God for Our Worth
The enemy tries to dictate our worth to keep us off balance and away from our godly purpose in life. To battle Satan’s messages, we must remember to look at our worth through the eyes of our Savior. He knows us and still loves us. And that love gives us our worth. We can never be too old or too sinful to become worthless to our Heavenly Father.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Prayer
Dear God, I come to you seeking your strength and guidance to understand my worth through your eyes. Help me see the unique qualities and talents that you have given me to love others the way you love me. When I feel weak and vulnerable, remind me I am fearfully and wonderfully made in your image. Because of you, I can do all things. In Christ’s name. Amen.
