4 Lessons on Faith I Learned from Star Wars

After my husband’s knee replacement surgery, we found ourselves trapped indoors, confined within the four walls of our own home. The relentless grip of cabin fever threatened to suffocate us, as if the air itself had turned into a prison. Binge-watching movies became our lifeline, a buoy amidst the turbulent sea of confinement. My husband suggested viewing all the Star Wars films. This series, with its epic battles between darkness and light, became a metaphorical backdrop for my spiritual journey. Maybe this exercise to fight boredom could offer me some lessons in faith.

4 Star War Lessons of Faith

Lesson One:

Each episode delves into the inner turmoil of the characters and the force that lives within them. When they pay attention to this force, it guides their every move. Like a lighthouse in the dark, God offers us a similar force to illuminate our path. The lessons for Christians; the Holy Spirit is the powerful energy that guides and empowers them. God gave us this force to guide us as we follow the path of faith.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NIV).

Lesson Two:

Through the movies, viewers are transported into a universe where the ongoing battle between good and evil unfolds, with the Jedi and Dark Side vying for control. With their web of lies and enticing offers, Darth Vader and the Sith Lords try to seduce others into embracing their way of life. The world today is a battleground, where the forces of darkness led by Satan wage war against the children of light, using deceitful lies and false teachings. The lessons for Christian; we cannot waver in the face of these schemes; instead, we must fight to ensure that the truth of Christ reaches every corner of the world.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Isaiah 5:20 (NIV).

Lesson Three:

Throughout the movies, we witness Luke Skywalker’s relentless battle to redeem his father’s soul, driven by his unwavering belief in the lingering presence of good. He engages in an intense battle, fighting with all his might to rescue him from the clutches of the Dark Side. God uses a different tactic to save us. Through Christ, God looks upon us with thoughts of loving-kindness, forgiveness, blessings, and favor. Knowing our true, sinful nature doesn’t deter Him from battling to save us from eternal damnation. The Lesson for Christian; He wages a fierce battle for our souls, sacrificing His son to ensure our salvation.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV).

Lesson Four:

In their pursuit of worldly gains, such as power, control, and wealth, the characters of the Dark Side stray from the path of light. If we are not careful, the draw of the enemy can tempt us with fleeting promises that quickly fade away. The lessons for Christian; for those who choose to follow Him, God promises an everlasting life of boundless joy and happiness.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (NIV).

Lessons – Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for the experiences that deepened our understanding of faith. Help me apply these lessons to strengthen my faith and spread Your teachings to others. As I wait to spend eternity with you, I long to follow the path of light that leads us closer together. May the gentle whispers of the Holy Spirit be my constant guide in every decision I make. In the name of the most Holy Jesus. Amen.
