How to Use the NIV Prayer Bible for Effective Prayer

Why the Prayer Bible Matters?

How is your prayer life? Mine is good for a while, and then life gets busy and I forget to pray. Or sometimes, I struggle with how or what to pray about once I cover my family and friends. Prayer is an intimate connection between our hearts and the throne of God, the Creator of the Universe. In this space, we can be honest about our fears and problems, but it is also the time we praise Him and express our joy.

I discovered the power of prayer after years of dealing with my fear of flying. One day, I felt the Lord impress upon me that He wanted me to trust Him fully. I had a choice to make: rely entirely on God when I flew or continue to travel with anxiety. When I finally tired of feeling afraid, I tried something different. I prayed for an entire week before my next trip to help calm my dread of flying. Slowly, I felt a change. With perseverance, I finally released my doubts to God in prayer. Now, I can fly without fear in the pit of my stomach. Pray changes everything.

Overview of the NIV Prayer Bible

I’m a member of the Thomas Nelson Bibles blogger program. With my membership, I occasionally review some of their new products. In exchange for my review, I get a free copy of the book I am reviewing. Today, I am privileged to give you my review of The Prayer Bible (NIV) by Thomas Nelson.

Some of the important features of this Bible include:

What Makes the Prayer Bible Unique?

I appreciate the way this Bible weaves the prayer prompts directly into the text instead of isolating them as separate study notes. Those prompts set the perfect tone for me to go deeper into my prayer life. And towards the back of the book there is an index that lists all the prayers found within the Bible, and I found this very useful to focus on how our faith forefathers prayed for the surrounding people.

This format encourages immediate, responsive prayer as I read verses each day. This is great for both seasoned believers and those new to prayer.

Strengths of the Prayer Bible

I found this Bible spiritually engaging as it promotes an active prayer life, not just passive reading. It was a very user-friendly format with a clean layout, an easy-to-follow layout, and minimal distractions. I received a burgundy cover, and the design is beautiful. Also, I believe this Bible would make a wonderful gift for anyone struggling with prayer.

Recommendation

I give the Prayer Bible, NIV edition, a 5-star rating ★★★★★. Get a copy for yourself or a friend at https://www.thomasnelsonbibles.com/product/the-prayer-bible-niv

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before you seeking to deepen my prayer life. So many things in my day-to-day life distract me from spending time with you in prayer. Help me become more faithful in praying regularly and to pray with a focused mind and a heart ready to connect with you. Lord, I know you hear me, and I ask for your guidance as I seek to understand your Word and your will for my life. Help me discern your voice and to trust in your perfect timing. Strengthen my faith and help me remain persistent in prayer. Let my prayers not be empty words, but a powerful connection with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
