Questions to Answers
Have you ever noticed great wordplay examples on social media? I find them entertaining. I discovered a new one that left me thinking. The author noted that: If you replace the W in what, when, and where with a T, you get that, then, and there. The simple letter switch transforms questions into answers. Maybe you’ve heard this before, but I had not and loved it.
Doesn’t God often work the same way in our lives as He turns our searching into finding, and our questions into clarity? So, if we take our questions to the cross (t), we will find the answers we want.
The Questions We Carry
What are some of the “W” questions we ask in life?
- What should I do?
- When will God answer?
- Where should I go?
I remember the time when I lost a job I loved because of a downsizing situation. As I drove home, I kept asking God the W question of why. Why did this happen? Why did it happen to me? I’m sure each of us can think of such a time in life.
The Shift to God’s Answers
When we shift our perspective (just as we shifted W to T), we can see God’s answers more clearly. The cross is our T is changing our questions to answers.
Let’s see how God changes our questions to answers and reassures us:
- That God is with us always is the promise, so we can trust in Him. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV); “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
- Then He will make it happen in His timing. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV); “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
- There at the cross, He is waiting to show us the way to go. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV); “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Turning Questions into Answers
To rest in God’s timing and direction means to trust that His plan is perfect, even when we have questions. It involves surrendering our own plans, being patient during seasons of waiting, and having faith that God will provide the right guidance and open doors at the appointed time, leading to our ultimate good. This trust allows us to find answers, rather than impatience or discouragement, knowing that God is sovereign and working all things for our benefit. Learn to trust God even when all we see are questions.
Practical Takeaway
Let’s look at several practical steps for turning questions into trust:
- Pray and put your “what/when/where” into God’s hands.
- Watch for His “that/then/there” answers in Scripture and daily life.
- Keep a journal to note how God has turned past questions into simple answers.

Prayer When we have Questions
Heavenly Father, I come to You with a heart full of questions and uncertainty. Please open my eyes to see Your will, my ears to hear Your voice, and my mind to understand Your ways. Grant me wisdom and discernment to make the right decisions and the strength to trust You, even when I cannot see the path ahead. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
