Finding Clarity in the Chaos
Chaos captures the current global situation. Everywhere we turn, voices and opinions compete for our attention. It’s no wonder fear and confusion surround us. A few years ago, I wrote Finding Faith, Hope and Love in a Broken World because I saw how desperate people were for peace. Yet, things seem even more turbulent today. So where can we turn when the world no longer makes sense?
Many people seek solace in the wrong places—distractions, possessions, or politics—only to discover that those things cannot fill the emptiness inside. Real and lasting peace comes only through Jesus, the One who never changes and never leaves us to face chaos alone.
The World’s Chaos vs. God’s Clarity
These problems are not new. In fact, Jesus warned us about them in Matthew 24:6-7 (NIV); “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” The world promises us only trouble, and no escape from it.
In contrast with what the world offers us, Christ promises us peace. We find this promise in John 16:33 (NIV); “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
From the earliest history, humanity chose self-interest, not God (Genesis 3). The turning away from God opened the door to chaos and confusion. However, Jesus came into our world to restore peace to us even during the chaos.
Chaos represents a state of disorder, fear, and uncertainty, while God’s peace is a profound inner calm and assurance that comes from trusting in God’s sovereignty, promises, and presence, even amidst life’s storms. Finding this kind of peace involves trusting and believing in Jesus’ death and resurrection. When we accept Christ, we find strength and stability that transcend external circumstances. So, why do we need Jesus?
Once we understand that the world’s confusion is not new, we can also see why Jesus is the answer humanity still needs today.
Why We Need Jesus
The Bible states we need Jesus during chaotic times because He is our refuge, providing strength, a present help, and hope in troubles. Verses like Psalm 46:1 (NIV) promise God is a refuge and strength in times of trouble, and Jesus gives a peace that transcends understanding. And Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) assures us not to fear, but to trust in Him as the foundation of our lives.
Christians believe we need Jesus because his life, death, and resurrection offer a way to overcome sin, receive forgiveness from God, achieve eternal life, and find hope and strength to face life’s challenges. He provides guidance, teaches ethical living, and offers a relationship with God that fulfills our longings that other worldly pursuits cannot satisfy.
What It Means to Follow Christ
Following Christ is more than just belief in him. It is a daily relationship built on trust and living a life that models the way Christ lived. Following Christ means being a disciple, with a lifelong commitment to obey His teachings. We are called to love God and others, and live a life of surrender and dependence on His grace. It also entails imitating His actions and principles, making His will supreme in every area of life, and sharing His message with others. It is not a burden but a path to experiencing His grace and transforming one’s life to reflect His love and truth.
We find Jesus’ words about following Him in Luke 9:23 (NIV) “Then he said to them all: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Jesus doesn’t promise an easy life, but a fulfilled one filled with His presence and peace no matter what is happening around us.
How to Start a Relationship with Jesus
Here are three simple steps you can take today:
- Admit you are a sinner and need forgiveness (Romans 3:23 NIV).
- Believe Jesus died for your sins and rose again (Romans 10:9–10 NIV).
- Confess and commit your life to Him in prayer, asking Him to be Lord and Savior. Here is a sample prayer you can use:
“Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe you died for me and rose again. I invite You into my heart as my Savior and Lord. Help me follow You all my days. Amen.”
Please let someone know if you prayed that prayer so they can walk with you and encourage you along the path of faith.
Living Out Your Faith in the Chaos
Accepting Christ is more than a decision; it means we live out our faith daily. Some ways to do that as you adjust to your new faith include:
- Read the Bible daily to hear God’s truth above the noise.
- Pray regularly to build connection and peace.
- Find a local church for community and growth.
- Surround yourself with believers who can encourage you.
Remember that following Jesus won’t remove all problems, but He gives strength and direction to face them.
Hope and Light in the Chaos
Even when chaos and confusion fill our world, Jesus brings us an unshakable peace and purpose. In John 8:12 (NIV): “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” This verse offers us hope. If you took a step of faith today, please pray for guidance, reach out to other Christians, and begin reading the Gospels in the New Testament.

Prayer During Chaos
Lord, I know with my mind set on you, your promises, and your goodness, I can carry peace with me through any trial or amount of chaos. And this is such a beautiful blessing. I praise you for always being by my side and always being my peace. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
