Stressed

What is the biggest stress in your life today? Are you worried about finances, a job, or maybe a family member? Stress is something we all have in our lives and we see it all around us everyday. I believe that technology has contributed to our heightened stress levels because we are always connected. It is rare for many of us to just spend some time alone enjoying the peace and quiet. The constant state of busyness just adds fuel to our already stressed lives. But what is the cost of all that stress.

Nepal is still experiencing aftershocks from the recent earthquakes. Many people are still living outdoors for fear of another large earthquake hitting the region. The children in our orphanage is Kathmandu are also living with this constant stress in their lives and we see it taking a toll on them. Attached is a photo of one of our newest children that lost everything in the 2 large earthquakes. She has been uprooted from her home and sent to live with strangers. The stress of  these events is seen on her skin as she recently broke out in an rash all over her body. The doctor said it is all stress related. She is just 5 years old. Please pray for Leah. No one so young should have to go through such terrible things.

Stress

What is stress doing to your body and spirit? In Matthew, we find a verse that really puts our stress into prospective. Matthew 6:27 “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Many of us try to rely on our own strength when it comes to the problems in our lives. God created us to fully trust and rely on Him for everything. We find many passages in the Bible that show us how we should deal with stress such as 1 Peter 5:7 “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” God cares for us and want us to trust Him. He will get you through what ever is stressing you out if you just trust Him. This is not always easy. Just when I think I have accomplished this, a new stress will come along and knock me back down. I have to stop stressing again and give it back over to Jesus. I usually need to do it on a daily basis. It all starts by living just one day at a time. The Bible also reminds us of this in Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins but he also came to give us a more abundant life. A life that is lived with less stress because we trust Him. John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full..” Take God at His word and trust Him with your troubles. No matter what is happening today in your life, God is able to help you get through it. Sometimes God will remove the stress but other times He will help you to move through it. Just trust Him. And remember:

Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
