Distraction

Ecclesiastes 8:16 “In my search for wisdom and in my observation of people’s burdens here on earth, I discovered that there is ceaseless activity, day and night.”

How much time do I waste each day doing things that do not matter. I have blogs to write but find myself looking at Facebook. The next thing I know, an hour has passed and my paper is blank and my stress level is elevated. Do you experience the same problems? There are things I intend to do but never get them accomplished. I get distracted and all my plans fall by the wayside. If I spent as much energy on completing a task instead of giving into the distractions, I could accomplish so much more.

The verse in Ecclesiastes shows us how our “ceaseless activities” are a burden on our lives. I don’t think God ever intended for us to be busy day and night. He has a purpose for our lives but our distractions drowned it out. In Matthew 11:29-30 the Bible reminds us. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” God calls us to focus on His work. When we do, we find a much lighter burden and rest. Something my soul longs for. I pray God helps me to put away my distractions and focus on His purpose instead. How about you, are you willing to give up your distractions?
