Isaiah 60:2 “Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the LORD rises and appears over you.”

The one reason I do not like winter is that it gets dark so early in the evening. Here in Oklahoma, it is dark around 5:30 PM during this season.  This early darkness leaves me feeling sleepy most evenings. Instead of going out into the blackness, I find myself wanting to stay home and do nothing. The blackness enshrouds my mood and leaves me craving for the brightness of day.

Our orphanage in Nepal is struggling with the darkness but for a different reason. This is the dry season in Nepal and the lack of rain causes water shortages. Hydro generates the electricity for the country. Therefor, no rain equals no electricity. Currently, the home is engulfed in darkness for 15 hours per day. The electricity only comes on during the wee hours of the morning. The children do school work by candle light. Without power, the water pump system does not operate. As of today, they have gone three days without water. No water means no bathing and no toilet flushing. They cope but they too long for the darkness to end. The above photo shows the children working in the dark.

Even in the midst of the winter darkness, I still feel the light of Christ shine upon me and it carries me through the bleakness. This Holy light gives me the hope to go on. Christ also illuminates the darkness in each of our orphanages.  No matter how difficult their circumstances, they know that God will provide for them.

Next time you feel lost in the darkness of life, look to God to fill you will His light and He will shine a light of your path and walk with you until the morning sun has risen again.

2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.”

May the Light of the world fill you heart with Joy this Christmas Season.      Merry Christmas!
