Earth Day

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

The first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970 in communities across the United States. More importantly, it “brought 20 million Americans out into the spring sunshine for peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reform.” It now is observed in 192 countries, and coordinated by the nonprofit Earth Day Network, chaired by the first Earth Day 1970 organizer Denis Hayes, according to whom Earth Day is now “the largest secular holiday in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people every year.”

God labored to create this beautiful world for all of us to enjoy as shown in the first chapter of Genesis. He gave Adam and Eve dominion over all of creation. God also gave them the responsibility to care for the earth as shown in Genesis 2:15 “The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.”  God still calls us to be good stewards of everything He provided to us. So as you celebrate Earth Day today, remember to do your part to protect our earth.

May the Lord Bless you and keep you.

Matthew 28:19 “Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
