Is God Calling You Out of the Boat

Matthew 14: 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”

I recently came across a great quote from Tim Tebow. He said; “What’s amazing when you get up and do something is what God does in your life. We just have to get up and do something. When your identity is found in Christ, your identity never changes. You are always a child of God. That’s why I always say I don’t have to live the roller coaster that the rest of the world lives.” I find this quote so true because I always feel more blessed when I return home from a mission trip. God blesses me in the going and the doing. Sometimes I think a trip blesses me more than I blessed those I went to serve. Early on in my mission work, I learned to step out of the boat into the raging seas. As long as Jesus was with me, I remained safe.

Is God calling you to get out of the boat? It is scary to think about leaving our safe, warm surroundings to step into an unknown world of storms. However, God calls all of us to trust Him and take that first step towards the work He has planned for you. Jesus will be there waiting for you with a loving smile and an outstretched hand to catch you if you fall. I love this story from Matthew because Peter provides us with such a great example. Peter was willing to step out in faith but quickly lost sight of Jesus and focused on the world around him. He began to sink. He cried out to Jesus, and Jesus rescued him.

Stop sitting in the boat! God is calling YOU to take a chance. If you have faith, He will help you to walk on water. God has miracles waiting to show you. Trust Him and step out. As the photos below show, God will make the storms of your into smooth waters.

With a whisper, God calms the storms
