Today’s Encouragement for the Brokenhearted
I was brokenhearted. I prayed, I cried, and I screamed at the ceiling. And I couldn’t catch my breath as I tried to make sense of what was happening in my life. Then my chest tightened, and my head spun out of control. Also, the doctor told us that there was nothing more they can do for our son and we needed to explore the possibility of a do not resuscitate order so they knew what to do when his health failed. No parent ever wants to deal with the death of their child.
Does this Bible verse resonate with you and your current situation? In addition, I think so many people feel brokenhearted these days. Or some lost people from the pandemic or for other reasons. Also, with the ongoing economic woes, many experience the feelings of a crushed spirit. But take heart, the Lord is close to us during the difficult times. But, it is more than just a feeling. This verse is a promise to us.
Besides the unrelenting pain of those days, I also remember feeling God close beside me. And this feeling was not just some warm and fuzzy feeling; Because I felt His arms holding me tightly, comforting me. In fact, His presence got me through the dark days. And without Him, I am not sure I would have survived the ordeal. And when I think back on those days, I remember Psalm 34:18. It says, “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted.” And He was for me, and I know He will always be there for me.
Bible Verses for the Brokenhearted
Over and over, the Bible affirms God’s love as steadfast. And, it is available to those who need it whenever they need it. Also, don’t lose hope because God’s promises never falter. So, let’s look at some additional verses to remember when we need more encouragement.
- He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3.
- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
- As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:13.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for clasping us when we are broken-hearted. And thank you for standing by our side and allowing us to feel your physical presence when we are grieving. Also, please help us remember in prayer those who are crushed in spirit and need help to face the future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Can I share these words with someone who is brokenhearted today?
I cannot imagine the level of pain and emotional suffering that comes from losing a child. Siblings, parents, and dear friends are hard enough. Knowing God can and will come to us in our greatest need gives us comfort and reassurance that He’ll be there in every need. Wonderful post. This is so encouraging, Yvonne. I remember feeling as if I was being held in tight arms like my father’s own arms when my father died recently, but those arms that truly held me in their grasp were the eternal arms of compassion, the Lord Himself.

Our God is our Comforter. He is with us through the pain and He brings peace to the broken hearted. The loss of any loved one is heart breaking, but I think the death of a child is the hardest to bear. Thank you for sharing this message of God’s love for us.
