2 Corinthians 9:6 “Remember this–a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.”
I hear many stories about giving in church. I try my best to make tithing a priority in my life. I also donate to various causes throughout the year. God blesses me so I try to be a blessing to others when I can. In addition, the Bible states in Matthew 6:4 “Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you,” I keep my gifts private. I give for the Glory of God not the glory of me.
One time, I overheard some waiters talking, actually they complained. It was a Sunday and a large group had just left. The waiters complained about their tips. The comment followed the line of, “Those Christians might say Bless you and thank you as they leave but then never tip.” I am a Christian so their words stung a little. Then I started to think about it and soon realized God called us to be generous. Not just in our giving at church but in every aspect of our lives. Luke 3:11 set the example for us “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”
If I went to your favorite restaurant, what would the staff say about your tips? Do you tip well? Do you forgo the tip if they mess up your order? On the other hand, are you generous to them? I am so glad Christ does not withhold His grace when I mess things up. We need to follow Christ’s example and be generous in everything we do, starting with our tips.
May the Lord Bless you and keep.
