Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

This verse brings some vivid memories to my mind. Each mission trip, we pray to the Lord for a verse that will give us guidance on the trip. This verse became our choice for our mission trip to Argentina. It became the perfect choice for this particular adventure.

All the plans were in place. We were a short six weeks away from the departure date. Everything was a go for Kenya. Kenya? Yes, I meant Kenya and not Argentina. Six weeks before the trip, a terrorist act caused the cancellation of all international flights to Nairobi. What should I do? Where would we go? I called many of my contacts who worked with short-term mission teams and soon found out about an opportunity to work in Salta, Argentina. I prayed and talked with the team about the change. Everything fell into place and we left on the same date as our original trip. Our human hearts had planned a mission trip. God’s wisdom directed our steps to Argentina instead of Kenya.

It is a good idea to make plans for our lives. We make plans for a future, plans for a career or plans for a mission trip. Just remember to leave room in your ideas for God to direct your path. He knows His plans for you and they are much better than anything we can arrange for ourselves. Trust Him!
