Stories touch our hearts, especially the true stories of people helping others in selfless ways. I love to hear stories about someone taking time out of their busy day to help their elderly neighbor or rescue a stuck animal. These stories gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside and renew my belief in the goodness of people. These types of stories make me want to be a better person, and some of them even stir me to change my ways.
As we enter Holy Week, I reflect on another story. I find this story in the Bible, and it tells about Jesus’ journey from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The verses detail out the final days of Christ’s life on earth. The truth of the story inspires me to change my life and become a better person.
I read the part of the tale about a day called Maundy Thursday, the day our Lord ate the Last Supper with His disciples. After the meal, Jesus washed the feet of His band of twelve followers. Jesus knew Judas would betray him and He still included him in the events. The truth of this story teaches me to serve those around me even if they are undesirable for me to be around.
Next, I read the section about the day called Good Friday. A secret trial finds Jesus guilty and condemns Him to death on a cross. He is innocent of any crime, but He willingly suffers a crucifixion for the love of all humanity. Jesus never stops to think of Himself first. The truth from this day teaches me to love everyone with unconditional love and without exception.
Finally, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, we find the story of the resurrection of Jesus. Mary and several other women went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body. The found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. An angel told the women that Jesus had risen from the dead and He had defeated death itself. The empty tomb offers us the truth of life after death for all who believe in Christ.
The truth of the Easter story in the Bible leads us to live eternal in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. Do you believe?
