Does God have a sense of humor? I think the question is a difficult one for many of us to answer. The Bible does not mention humor as one of God’s characteristic. But as I look around the animal kingdom, I see a God that enjoys providing us with laughter. And since God created us in His image and God gave us a sense of humor, then I believe He also enjoys a good laugh sometimes.
The Bible provides us funny stories with a purpose. But the humor is still evident. The Bible story of Jonah shows a man who tries to run away from God to avoid going to Ninevah. God sends a big fish to swallow up Jonah and keeps him there for three days. Could you image living in the belly of a fish for three days? The story sounds like a funny tale told by an old fisherman. I am sure Jonah did not see the humor in the situation. God uses many ways to get out attention and to correct our actions.
Situations in my life provide evidence of God’s humorous nature. For example, God knows I do not like to hear other people slurp or make noises when they eat their food. As I followed God’s call to mission, He sent me to countries where loud slurping and chomping are a sign of appreciation for the meal. I can almost hear a chuckle as I sit next to the loudest slurper in the world. I smile and pray for ear plugs for the next meal.
God’s humor is different from a human’s in the fact that it is never cruel or hurtful. God knows genuine laughter brings joy to our souls. The old saying tells us that laughter is good medicine. In a world full of terror and evil schemes, I find comfort in the idea that God provides me with situations which bring a smile to my face and laughter for my soul. Laughter may not fix our problems or fix the world around us, but it can provide us a few moments of relief. I find that those moments of laughter in the dark times give me the strength to keep on going. I thank God for giving us laughter.

Matthew 28:19 “Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
I always laugh too, when I read of God sending frogs as one of the plagues in the OT. Yes, I agree He has a sense of humor. On Aug 22, 2017 12:02 PM, “Turning Mountains into Molehills” wrote:
