Today’s blog by Yvonne
Busy schedules made for a fast-paced summer for my family. Relaxation called to me, and I longed for some quiet time. I planned a short weekend away in one of our nearby state parks. Cabins, cookouts and s’mores beckoned me with the perfect cure from hectic lifestyles. We packed games for evening fun and comfortable shoes for a daytime hike. Just what this worn out soul needed to reconnect with nature and with God.
My two-year-old granddaughter tagged along on the short hike. “Look, tracks in the mud,” I exclaimed as I pointed them out to her. We walked closer to examine the muddy print. A raccoon made the tracks in the mud, my husband offered. Excitement danced in her young eyes as she spent the rest of the walk looking for other footprints.
Seeing the impression left by the animal caused me to ponder my daily steps. How much time do I spend looking at my tracks as I walk this road of life? I glance back on my path to assure myself I am making progress. I strain my eyes looking for clues on the road ahead especially when life is uneven. Many times, the path before me bumps, twists and turns as I proceed cautiously forward. My steps were tentative as I slip along some parts and fall at others. The road laid out is not an easy one.
No matter how much I try to plan my route, detours force me to redirect. Sometimes, the changes are from my actions, but sometimes I feel God take charge and guide me on His path. The key verse today, from Proverbs 16:9, reminds me that I am not in charge of this journey. I make my plans, but ultimately God directs my path. His route will not be easy. However, it always gets me where He wants me to go. Looking back over my life showed me that God’s way is always best.
