A Travel Journal

A European Journey

Our mission work takes us on lots of adventures to many places around God’s beautiful creation. With my husband’s recent retirement, we planned to make a different kind of trip. This new excursion will celebrate our many years of hard work in our careers. This vacation will also help us transition to our new life and allow us time to see what Christ is planning for the next phase of our lives.

We will spend a month traveling through Europe. The attached photo is a map of our route, starting in the north and working our way south. I will try my hand at writing a travel journal for this trip. Each Saturday during the journey, I will post a new blog with highlights, tips, and recommendations. The blog will include a review of the good excursions, the not so pleasant sights and the things to avoid.

For example, the blog will offer details on where we stayed, the kinds of food we enjoyed and transportation options. I will provide information on cost and ways to save money. We planned the trip for the off season to save money. Airfares and hotels are usually cheaper during non-peak travel season. There will also be a page set up to ask questions about the areas we are visiting (which we will answer as quickly as possible).

Details

The outbound trip goes from DFW to Oslo on KLM Airways. The return flights are from Milan to DFW on Air France. We paid $575 per person for the tickets. Upgrades to Economy Plus seating cost us an additional $150 per ticket. Most hotels we use will be local except when we redeem points to cover the cost. Trains will be our primary mode of transportation between cities. The two exceptions are plane trips between Copenhagen and Berlin, and Vienna to Zurich. Flights offered us cheaper options than the train.

I hope you will follow our journey. Please feel free to provide feedback. My regular blog will still appear each Wednesday.

Blessings,
