What Separates us from the Eternal Love of Christ?

Read About Eternal Love:

“Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?”

Romans 8:35 (NLT)
Eternal Love

Today’s Encouragement about Eternal Love:

The verse today contains quite the list of “calamities.” Many of those same troubles are present in our world today. Just within the last few weeks, our society has experienced hurricanes, civil unrest, earthquakes, threats of war, and acts of terror. We don’t have to look far to find hungry or destitute people living on the edge all around us. The troubles of the world invade our souls and threaten to swamp us in despair and leave us questioning the eternal love of God.

But, as usual, the Bible stands ready to encourage us and soothe our tormented souls. Romans 8:35 looks at this question: “Does it mean God no longer loves us when troubles strike?” Not at all. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. No person, no event and no situation will cause our Savior to stop loving us. When we feel worldly matters weighing us down, we must remember our hope rests in Jesus and not in what the world offers. He loves us, the same, yesterday, today and forever.

When We Doubt the Eternal Love

What events cause you to doubt the love of God? Maybe the loss of a loved one or financial strain leaves you questioning his love for you. Some people might think Christ will never love them because they are too far gone. But trust me, even when we fail God in our daily living, he never cannot love us. We know love because he first loved us. Just look at Psalm 103:11-12 (NIV); “11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” God’s love for us will never fail.

Pray:

eternal love pray

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us no matter the situations we find ourselves. Thank you for your faithfulness in loving us every day. Show us to look to you and your love when we feel scared by worldly events. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflect:

What events in life make you feel far away from God?

We are blessed to have a loving Father and Savior whose love is unconditional. He is always there when we reach out to Him. And He gives us the strength and courage to make the right decisions (those tough ones) to stay on the pathway to follow Him. Thank you for this message of reassurance.

Yvonne, thanks for emphasizing a study on the love of God. Too often people think their sin keeps His love away. Rather, the cross shows the world how far reaching His love extends. So far there is no end.

    1. Yvonne Morgan

Amen Barbara. He knows our sins and still loves us. We just need to reach out to Him. God bless you.

Knowing He loves me when I recognize in myself that I am not that lovable, is a special blessing indeed. It gives me the strength to go to Him in confession and repentance so that our right relationship is restored. Thank your for this encouraging post, ma’am.

Well said JD. It is so amazing that He can still love us in our unloveable moments. Thanks and blessings to you and Ms. Diane.

Yvonne, this is a wonderful translation and wording of Romans 8:35. It is soothing and your entire message here calms my heart and brings me so much joy to know nothing–no-thing–can separate me from God’s love. And I like how you said, “even when we fail God in our daily living, he never cannot love us.”
