How to Conquer Giants Like a Pro

Last year, we spent a splendid two-weeks exploring the Holy Land. We trod the places where many of our Biblical forefathers walked. To picture the story behind each spot triggered me to pause in reverence. Throughout the visit, I treasured the all the ways I saw God conquer giants for His people, whether from sin, sickness, or actual giants.

God Will Conquer Giants

Towards the end of the trip, we visited the Elah Valley. The lush valley spread across the Judean plains and is the site where God used David to conquer a giant who taunted the people of Israel. The Elah valley served as the dividing line between Philistine and Judean territories, meaning the victor of this battle controlled a crucial and fertile area. Read the story in 1 Samuel 17. To commemorate this spot and the miracles performed by God, I picked up five river stones from the dry riverbed.

Ebenezer Moments

Is there something you keep close that symbolizes the way God works in your life? Each time I see those stones, I am reminded of the Ebenezer moments when God’s power triumphed over the challenges in my life. An Ebenezer is a Hebrew word that means “stone of help.” The Bible mentions the term several times in the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel and is a place where the Israelites witnessed God conquer their giants.

Ebenezer moments are those unmistakable times when we feel God’s hand guiding our every step as He conquers the giants in our life. In those moments, we realize the outcomes we experienced are beyond mere coincidence, and the only explanation is the hand of God helped us.

Remembering Our Conquered Giant

Create an Ebenezer in your life, as I did with stones from the Elah Valley. Perhaps it’s a commemorative plaque or a meaningful token that symbolizes the moment God triumphed over a monumental challenge in your life. For Christians in the present day, I believe it is important to embrace the idea of an Ebenezer daily. Look around, and reminders of God conquering giants still exist.

More than Conquerors

With God’s help, we can conquer all the challenges we face. We find such messages throughout God’s word. Paul provides encouragement in Romans 8:37 (NIV); “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

Prayer to Conquer

Thank you, Lord, for all the giants you conquered in my life. I want to commemorate those special moments so I will never forget. Because of what Jesus has done for me, I am no longer a struggling sinner. Instead, I possess the power to be and conqueror and overcomer. Guide me and protect me every day of life. Without you, nothing would be possible. In Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen.

I love this, Yvonne! My husband and I have saved heart rocks through the years. As the years passed, I forgot where they came from. But I treasure the memory of spending time with my husband and walking in love. I would like to be more intentional about writing on the back of rocks I have collected as a remembrance of God’s help through difficult times. Thank you for this great encouragement!

Thank you Melissa. Other than these rocks, I don’t write on them either and I should. They are a testament to God’s faithfulness. God bless.

I had not heard of Ebenezer moments before, or known the Hebrew meaning Ebenezer. How interesting! Yes, God is still the our conquerer!

While not stones, I look at the shelves lining my office and see so many “collected Ebeneezers” through my life. Reminders of His faithfulness, even when I wasn’t.

Any such items help us remember His grace for us. They are a blessing to remember. Thanks JD. God bless
