What is the Best Way to Salvation?

I remember the day I accepted Christ as my Savior; it was a moment filled with such overwhelming joy and relief, a feeling I’ll never forget. Nine years old, in Riverside Baptist Church in Ontario, Canada, amidst the hymns and hushed reverence, I found my salvation. The Sunday school teacher, with a gentle smile, outlined practical steps to surrender one’s heart while explaining the significance of a personal relationship with Jesus. I followed her instructions and prayed the prayer of salvation, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. Afterwards, I bounded up the stairs, the joyful news bubbling inside me, to share it with my cheering family. That day, as I felt the Holy Spirit’s presence, I knew Christ had written my name in the “Book of Life,” hallelujah! Have you invited Christ into your heart to be your savior?

What is the best way to Salvation

What is Salvation, and Why Do We Need It?

Let’s start by reviewing the definition of the word. Salvation is the act of being saved from harm, danger, or a dangerous situation. Salvation, in Christianity, is the deliverance of the soul from sin and its consequences. So what is sin? Sin is anything you say, do, or think that goes against what God wants or anything that we worship more than God in our lives. In the Bible, the word sin—whether it is in the Hebrew or the Greek—means to miss the mark. And that mark is God’s word or commands and when we miss those, we have committed sin. Salvation saves us from the consequences of our sins.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 2:23 (NIV).

What is God’s Part in Salvation?

The Bible describes God as forgiving sins, washing away guilt, and removing sins from people. Our sin separation us from God, but when we ask Him for forgiveness, God graciously forgives our sins. God’s actions show his compassion and mercy for us. And once he forgives our sins, God welcomes us into His family as sons and daughters.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (ESV).

How Did God Remove our Sins?

God laid our sins on Jesus. In the Old Testament sacrificial system, the people used a goat as a sacrifice for our human sin. But this did not take away the sins permanently, so the sacrifice became a repeated ritual. In His mercy, God gave Jesus to become a sacrificial lamb for our sins and He died on the cross to take away our sins.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV).

What Are the Benefits of Salvation?

Some benefits of salvation include:

  • Forgiveness: God forgives our sins.
  • Eternal life: God eternal life in heaven for those who believe.
  • Peace with God: We have an ongoing relationship with God.
  • Adoption into God’s family: We become sons and daughters in God’s family.
  • Assurance of God’s love: We receive God’s love and mercy.
  • Hope: We receive hope for the future and triumph over troubles.
  • Guidance: We receive the light and guidance from God.
  • Righteousness: We become righteous and holy in God’s eyes.

“7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.” Philippians 3:7-9 (NIV).

What Do I Need to Do to Receive Christ as My Savior?

Salvation means escaping the penalty of being forever apart from God, a consequence of sin. It’s a gift from God’s grace, a precious and unearned treasure given to us. And receiving this gift begins with a prayer. A prayer of salvation is a prayer asking for forgiveness and inviting Jesus Christ into one’s life. A simple example is to repeat the following words; “Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life. Wash me clean. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” If you said this prayer, congratulations and welcome to the family of Christ.

“If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV).

Now What?

If you prayed for salvation, the next step is to engage with your newfound faith by reading the Bible, praying, seeking fellowship with other Christians in a church community, and considering getting baptized as a public declaration of your commitment to Christ; we need to nurture our relationship with God through consistent spiritual practices. But don’t stress as you work to figure out the next steps. Just get closer to the one who loves you more than you can understand. Make it a celebration of your new life in Christ by sharing the news with everyone. Congratulations.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV).

Prayer for New Believers

Salvation

Lord, I pray that this new believer will be a disciple, a follower of Christ Jesus. I pray the person will become actively involved in a congregation and do his/her duty in the Kingdom of God. And I also pray for the person to become a witness about their salvation and new life in Christ. Amen.
