Did you ever play the “I spy” game as a child? And what did you see? At a recent writer’s conference, I had an assignment to meditate on the word of God in nature. My word for the year is “dwell,” so I felt excited about the opportunity to spend time with the Lord and listen for his voice. During the time, he urged me to observe my surroundings and listen for his messages in nature. As I did, the words flowed to my heart, and I jotted them down.
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Mark 6:31 (NIV).

As I sit here in your forest, Father, I picture myself sitting at your feet. And what do I see?
Your birds flitter about with chirps and tweet and their songs echo of your love song to each of us.
The water babbles as it flows past me and reminds me of how your living waters carry my sins away.
A breeze rustles through the trees above me, and the presence of the Holy Spirit rests upon my soul.
The fragrance of the moss rises around me and reflects how my prayers arise in your Holy Temple.
And the sun shines upon my face as it breaks through the leaves like your light shines on me and warms me.
In this place, I feel your Holy presence descend upon me and I find peace.
Bring Me Back to these Moments to Remember.
You beckon me to dwell with you as you dwell with me.
Let the morning dove’s song bring me back to this moment.
Light up the path ahead and strengthen me to walk along it.
Uphold me when I am weak and pick me up when I fall.
Send your angels to guide and protect me and my family.
And let the rays of sun reflect your smile upon and warm me.
Return me to this place, so I feel your Holy presence descend upon me and I find peace.
Prayer

Dearest Father. We are blessed by your creation and the ways in which you speak to us through it. All creation whispers of your love. Thank you for all the gifts that your hands provide. May we seek you and find you in every part of our lives. Let your love guide us in all we do. Thank you for all the blessings. In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

Thank you Melissa. Yes they are and such an amazing gift to us. Blessings
Lovely descriptions of the things that God created (and that He opened your senses to). Nature is my dwelling place, my go to for a quiet space (even though it is full of the noise of God’s creatures).
Thank you Lynn. God’s noises offer us peace compared to the noises of the world. God bless

Yes it does. Thanks Jessica and blessings on your day.
This is beautiful, Yvonne. Reminds me of when we are camping and out in nature like a wooded state park or campground. Recognizing all the wonders of the world around us and God’s creation helps us praise His glory and drowns out the noisy world around us.
Thank you Karen. That sounds so lovely too. It refreshes my soul in such moments. God bless.
Thank you for this inspiring reminder to seek rest. I seem to need a lot of urging on this. Nature is my favorite spot to rest and renew.
Thanks Katherine and God bless you
