When I first became serious about study Bibles, I assumed every Bible was basically the same. As the years passed, I realized that wasn’t true at all. Different editions can help us experience God’s Word in different ways, whether through study notes, historical context, maps, journaling space, or unique layouts. Now, I’m learning about the Color Code Study Bible.
That’s one reason I appreciate being part of the Thomas Nelson Bibles Blogger Program. It gives me the opportunity to explore new Bible editions and share honest reviews with my readers. This time I had the chance to spend time with the “Color Code Study Bible (NIV)”, and I was curious to see whether its unique color-coded approach would actually deepen my understanding of Scripture.
My collection has continued to grow since becoming a member of the Thomas Nelson Bibles Blogger Program. As part of the program, I receive complimentary copies of newly released Bibles in exchange for my honest review. Each one helps me find new ways to share the Gospel with others, and when I finish with them, I donate them to a church or organization that will benefit from them. I always enjoy seeing the unique features each Bible offers, and this one immediately caught my attention.

At first, I wondered if the color coding would become distracting while reading. Instead, I found the exact opposite. The carefully chosen colors helped me recognize important biblical themes without interrupting the flow of Scripture.
The Bible highlights seven foundational themes throughout God’s Word:
- God the Father
- God the Son
- And God, the Holy Spirit
- Salvation
- Sanctification
- Sin and Temptation
- Last Things
As I read, I began noticing connections between passages that I might not have recognized otherwise. The color system naturally encouraged me to slow down and think about how these themes weave throughout the entire Bible rather than appearing as isolated ideas.
One feature I appreciated was that is much more than just a color-coded Bible. It also includes helpful book introductions, verse-by-verse study notes, topical notes on key doctrines, generous note-taking margins, and a concordance. Whether you’re reading through the Bible for the first time or have studied it for years, these resources make Scripture easier to understand and apply.
My Copy of the Color Code Study Bible
This copy features a beautiful black faux leather design and comfortable handling during reading, with a thumb index to make finding the books easier. Full-color pages make them stand out, yet the layout never feels overwhelming. The colors complement the text instead of competing with it.
I appreciated the generous outer margins that provide plenty of room for personal notes, prayers, or insights during Bible study. As someone who enjoys journaling what God is teaching me, this feature quickly became one of my favorites.
Everything about the design encourages thoughtful, intentional study while remaining inviting for everyday reading.
New International Version (NIV)
The New International Version (NIV) has long been one of my favorite translations for daily reading and devotional study. It strikes an excellent balance between accuracy and readability, making Scripture easy to understand without sacrificing its meaning.
Whether you’re new to the Bible or have been studying God’s Word for many years, the NIV offers a smooth reading experience that makes it easy to stay engaged.
Recommending the Color Code Study Bible
I highly recommend the Color Code Study Bible (NIV) for anyone who wants a practical study Bible without feeling overwhelmed by hundreds of pages of commentary.
The color-coding system provides an easy way to recognize major biblical themes, while the study notes offer just enough additional insight to deepen your understanding. I slowed down, making connections across Scripture and paying closer attention to what God was teaching.
This Bible would make an excellent gift for a new believer, a student beginning serious Bible study, or anyone looking for a fresh approach to reading God’s Word. It’s also a wonderful resource for small group leaders, Sunday school teachers, or anyone preparing Bible lessons.
This Bible reminded me that studying Scripture doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Sometimes all we need is a tool that helps us see God’s truth a little more clearly.

Prayer Before Reading the Bible
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for giving us your word as a guide for every season of life. As I open this Bible, help me see the beauty of Your truth and recognize how every part of Scripture points back to You. Give me wisdom to understand, a heart willing to obey, and eyes to see Your work woven throughout every page.
May Your Holy Spirit teach me, transform me, and draw me into a deeper relationship with You each day.
